Plot

Kim Soo Hyun plays Won Ryu Hwan, an elite spy from North Korea, who has been undercover in South Korea for 2 years pretending to be the local idiot, but he has grown tired of this role and is just waiting to hear from someone back home for instructions on a mission. Two new guys move in to town and they both happen to be N Korean spies and a former colleagues of Ryu Hwan's, and although this makes things a little more fun for him, it doesn't do much to abate his restlessness. Some officials in South Korea find out there are sleeper agents in their country and as they are working to take care of the problem, these sleepers start killing themselves. The 3 friends find themselves fighting for their lives for very different reasons, but things look bleak.

My Feelings

This movie kinda took me by surprise, I was expecting it to be a bit of a time killer but I got so invested in their story! Let me start from Kim Soo Hyun (duh), his diversity as an actor came through in this role, the speed at which he switched from a silly street boy to a super slick spy was something to behold, he played both parts so seamlessly! I've never doubted his acting but he has definitely gained some points in my books after this. Next, Lee Hyun Woo, this guy is just a CUTIE, even while playing a bad ass I want to pinch his cheeks. I first saw him in Moorim School and loved him there and he didn't disappoint here, he played the role of a vulnerable young guy determined to be tough and to do what he thinks is right very convincingly. His acting was really good and he made his character very lovable. Now the story, I do not know much about the history of North and South Korea but this movie definitely told the story of how one can be torn between self and loyalty to their country, each one of the guys ended up disobeying orders, but not for selfish reasons. This movie could have wrapped things up in a nice red bow, but they would have done themselves a disservice, as hard as the end was to watch, it was probably the best end for a movie like this. I absolutely loved the movie and the few tears I shed were well worth it.

Conclusion

I will recommend this movie, it has a wonderful story, the acting was superb, nothing over done and some nice actions scenes to boot. The plot was not lacking depth and the actors were not lacking in looks 🙂
